Walking
There are many brilliant walks in the area, but just one might be that around The Stiperstones. The walk starts from The Bog, an area which even fifty years ago still had some fading signs of the intense industrial activity of Victorian days. Although the start is relatively high, the walk drops down to Stiperstones Village with its comfortable inn, before the climb up a deep valley.
The climax of the walk is the broad ridge with its rocky quartz tors, including the Devil's Chair. From here the views are remarkable. Follow the link for more details on this and other great walks in the area.

The Beeches Lodge is surrounded by some of the most glorious countryside which is ideal for top quality game shooting. We are fortunate to have many very good estates on our doorstep, namely Kempton, Delbury, Brigands and Bettws Hall.

Powis Castle & Garden
A medieval castle rising dramatically above the celebrated garden which was built by Welsh princes, now home to the Earls of Powis. View the world famous garden with Italianate terraces together with one of the finest collections of paintings and furniture in Wales. Chirk Castle
The magnificent 14th-century fortress of the Welsh Marches and the last Edward I Welsh castle still lived in today. There are award winning gardens with thatched 'Hawk House', shrub garden, lime tree avenue and yew topiary together with a circular woodland walk through the medieval hunting park. Gregynog Hall
In the Village of Tregynon, two miles from Bettws is Gregynog Hall now owned by the University of Wales. In 1577 a house was built for David Blayney, the high sheriff of Montgomeryshire replacing the original 12th Century Hall. His descendant, Henry Hanbury-Tracy, demolished it in 1840 and built the current mock-Tudor hall. Its 'black and white' relief exterior is actually concrete rendering dating from a little later. It stands in wooded parkland, with an estate of 750 acres. The gardens open to the public and are well worth a look. www.wales.ac.uk
